[13] Fares Dessouky (EGY) 3-1 Eain Yow Ng (MAS) 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5 (58m)
A very close encounter, with Fares looking in control but forced to play very long rallies indeed. Young Yow Ng is hungry and fit, clever and improving all the time. Fares, after a very tough match in Cairo against the central ref was delighted with John Masseralla’s decisions today. Match was fluid, fast and very entertaining.
Fares
I’m really happy to be through because I thought it was a very tough draw. Don’t look at the rankings, but how hungry he is and how great he is playing at the moment.
I was in control in the second, a couple of points ahead, but I think I lost a bit both my focus and my game plan, and he played extremely well.
If I compare it with our match in Chicago, he didn’t give me any cheap point, and it was much harder both mentally and physically today.
He was moving very fast, and the court is very fast too, it was so hard to win points, you needed like 20 or 30 shots to take the rally. And at some point, I was wondering how I would close the match!
