The competitions of the QSF Challenger Squash Open begin at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex today. With 28.000 USD in prize money, the tournament will bring together a huge number of squash stars including Qatar’s Abdullah Al Tamimi.
The PSA Challenger Tour provides a platform for the world’s most exciting up-and-coming players to cut their teeth on the professional circuit against some of the Squash’s most experienced professionals, with tournaments offering prize money between $5,500 – $30,000.
Organized by the Qatar Squash Federation, the tournament will feature the participation of 24 players including world number 28 Leo Au of Hong Kong and world number 37 Abdullah Al Tamimi of Qatar.
Abdullah Al Tamimi: The tournament is a chance for coming back after a tough season
Qatar’s Abdullah Al Tamimi said that the tournament will provide him with the opportunity to recover after the knee injury he suffered during his training camp in Australia in preparation for this tournament.
“I wish it can return to the competitions and retain my fitness during the new season after the injuries I suffered last season from December to March which kept me away from a lot of tournament.” He said.
Al Tamimi added that he will have a three-week training camp in Germany next month in preparation for two tournaments in September in Shanghai and Hong Kong
Saad al Mohannadi: The tournament will feature highly ranked players
For his part, the Executive Director of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation and Tournament Director Saad Al Mohannadi expected that the tournament will be so tough as it will so many high ranked players. “The tournament is so important for the young and coming squash stars as it provides the winner with 600 points. It will also help the players step up their preparations for the new sports season.” Al Mohannadi said.
Al Mohannadi also wished all the best for our national team player Abdullah Al Tamimi after the injuries he suffered during the last season.
The matches of the first day start at 03:30 pm while Qatar’s Al Tamimi will begin his campaign in the tournament on Sunday.
