Karim Abdel Gawad (EGY) 3-0 [Q] Auguste Dussourd (FRA) 11-4, 11-8, 13-11 (28m)
I’m really happy with my performance today, it’s hard to play someone who you haven’t played before. I just focused on performing my best from the beginning. I’m happy to win in three.
Salazar and I have played a few times before, he’s one of the fittest players on court. We’re really good friends and playing him tomorrow will be a tough match.
I’m just trying to focus on my recovery today and will then focus on the match tomorrow.
Winning a major tournament gives you extra confidence, especially when you’re playing well, and I played really well back home in Cairo. Now a week after we are playing a World Championship here in Qatar and that gives me more confidence. I’m focusing on my performance, how I’m playing and how I can enjoy my squash and play better on court.
Hopefully I can do something special here.
