After a hectic opening day which saw two Qatari players progress to the last 32, action focused on the Khalifa Complex glass court as Round Two began with the top half of the draw.
And it was home hero Abdulla al Tamimi who stole the show again with a straight-games win over Mathieu Castagnet – his second French victim in a row – to become the first Qatari to reach the last sixteen.
All the other matches went to seeding as Tarek Momen, Karim Abdel Gawad, Simon Rosner, Diego Elias, Joel Makin, Fares Dessouky and James Willstrop also advanced, sixth seed Elias the only one taken the distance.
