The last four quarter-final spots were be claimed today at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex as Round Three was played out in the bottom half of the draw.
Coll denies Egyptian clean sweep
It was almost an Egyptian clean sweep as Zahed Salem started proceedings with an impressive upset against sixth seed Miguel Rodriguez, Marwan ElShorbagy maintained his impressive record against seventh seed Mohamed Abouelghar, setting up a quarter-final against elder brother and top seed Mohamed, who beat Saurav Ghosal in straight games.
New Zealand’s Paul Coll was the only non-Egyptian winner, coming through a compelling two two-hour five game marathon against Omar Mosaad, saving teo match balls and taking it on his own sixth in a nerve-shredding ending.
