Qatar’s Abdulla Al Tamimi claimed the title of the QSF 4 2023 after beating Egyptian No.1 seed Tarek Momen in the final match held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on Friday.
In a mouth-watering final, Al Tammi held his nerve to beat Momen 3-2 (7-11 11-3 12-10 6-11 12-10) for the first time in his career.
No.5 seed Al Tamimi, who knocked out Swiss No.4 seed Dimitri Steinmann to reach the last four, was on hand to send another seed toppling, coming through his bout against Frenchman Victor Crouin in five games and 60 minutes of action to book his spot in the final match.
No.1 seed Momen spent 26 minutes less time on court during his comfortable semi-final win over Egyptian compatriot Fares Dessouky, coming away an 11-5, 11-2, 11-9 victor in 34 minutes.
Speaking after the match, Abdullah Al Tamimi expressed his great joy at defeating the Egyptian star Tarek Momen for the first time to win the QSF 4 title.
“I am extremely happy with this achievement and winning against Tarek Momen, whom we consider a role model for all Arab players.” He said.
“This is my first victory over him, and the match was extremely difficult and competitive from the beginning to the end. I wondered how to come back to the game after losing the first and fourth sets, especially in the decisive set. Although I felt some fatigue because I had a tough match in the semifinals against Victor.” He added.
For his part, the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation Secretary General Tariq Zainal was delight by the achievement of Abdulla Al Tamimi.
“It was a strong and exciting final, and Al-Tamimi’s first victory over Tarek Momen was well-deserved.” He said.
“We are proud of Al Tamimi’s recent achievements as he claimed the bronze medal of Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and won the title of the QSF 4.” He added.
