World No. 3 and 2017 Qatar Classic finalist Tarek Momen has arrived in Doha to participate in the 2019-20 PSA Men’s World Championship to be held from November 8 to 15 at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha.
The 31-year-old Egyptian, who will be meeting Germany’s World No. 25 Raphael Kandra in the first round of the tournament, landed in the Qatari capital on Wednesday and was welcomed on arrival by top officials of the Qatar Squash Federation and some fans.
Momen, who has a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the American University of Cairo, has had a topsy-turvy season – losing the final of the Oracle Netsuite Open 2019 to compatriot Mohammed ElShorbagy before losing in the semi-final of the 2019 FS Investments US Open Squash Championships in Philadelphia to the same opponent.
He, however, won the CCI International after defeating his compatriot and World No. 13 Fares Dessouky in five games.
This is the fifth time Qatar will be hosting the PSA Men’s World Championship. This year’s edition of the tournament carries a $335,000 total prize purse and is featuring a total of 64 players from 24 countries, including the 56 highest ranked players and eight wild card entrants. In addition to capturing the trophy and the lion’s share of the prize money, the winner will also qualify for the season-ending PSA World Tour Finals.
